Summary: Had this for years, really like it
Comment: I was surprised to find some people having serious complaints with this coffee maker. I've had mine for years and never had a problem. I agree that it's hard to pour the water in without spilling a little, but I think it's more operator error than anything else. It isn't that much a design flaw of the coffee maker as much as its a design flaw of normal mugs. Every time I've made a mess trying to pour water in, it's been because the water flows back down the outside of the mug. So I'm going with operator error.

I love this maker since it's only me and my fiancee in the house, so it's easy to make just the right amount of coffee. Also being able to brew it directly in the travel mugs is great! Saves me the time of pouring it in there, and it's one less thing to clean up!

You don't have to use just the mugs that came with it. We just pour in the water from a regular coffee cup and then brew straight into the cup. We also use it all the time to make hot tea. One time I even used it to heat water super fast for a recipe that called for 1 cup boiling water. It didn't get it boiling, but it got it super hot much faster than I could have boiled water.

It's been awesome for me, and has worked for years. Even survived 2 moves, one of which was from Ohio to Colorado. Only draw back is when I have company over and I can't brew enough coffee at once for everyone. But that's not what it was designed for, so I don't really hold it against it to much. I recommend this coffee maker, and would buy it again (or their newer model) if mine happened to break.

Summary: Failure of the Coffee Maker
Comment: The coffee maker performed as advertised. However two days after the expiration of the warranty the unit ceased functioning due to the failure of the pumping mechanism to operate. The unit is not constructed for long-term utilization

Summary: Better then Cuisinart TTG-500 Two-to-Go Coffeemaker
Comment: I recently purchased this item from Amazon.com. After seeing the reviews and in need of a few new travel mugs for my Cuisinart TTG-500 Two-to-Go Coffeemaker, I opted for the Melitta. After receiving it, it figured, what the heck? I'd try it out. Once unboxed, I noticed several features I wish I had on my Cuisinart.

First off, the Melitta has a see thru water level window. On my Cuisinart, it's on the inside. Being that I keep the coffee maker under the counter, I have a hard time seeing the water level.
Winner: Melitta

Second: When I'm on the go, I rush to make a cup of Java and on the Cuisinart, I have to wait a few minutes after it drips. If I don't, when I return, I find that the left over coffer trapped in the filter grounds dripped on the base of the Cuisinart and onto the counter. On the Melita, it has a removable drip and overflow tray. Any dripping is caught in the overflow tray. Just remove remove the tray and rinse.
Winner Melitta

Third, I always felt it a pain having to turn on the the Cuisinart as the power button is on the left side. (most people are right handed) On the Melitta, the power button is in the front. Easy to get to.
Winner: Melitta

Last: The Cuisinart is a but taller while the Melitta is a bit wider.
Winner: Draw

Overall, If I ever needed another 2 cup coffee maker, I would gladly buy the Melitta. If the price of the Cuisinart and the Melitta was comparable, I will opt for the Melitta

Summary: Perfection!
Comment: Yes, it needs to be on a level surface. And yes, it's best if you rinse everything out after each use. And yes, it's true that the cups do not keep coffee piping hot forever.

But in the real world of making your morning cup, if you freshly grind good beans, use good water, and just follow the directions (including the suggestion to put hot water in the cups to warm them before you brew; we let them sit and warm up while grinding, filling the reservoir, etc.), this gives you an EXCELLENT brew every time, without taking up a lot of acreage on your countertop.

We've been using two of these (one at home, one at our "pied a terre") for over a year, replacing MUCH more expensive makers we've reboxed and stored.

There's just nothing like the conical filter basket.

And at Amazon's current price, it's a steal.

UPDATE: I liked this product so much I just ordered a third one. BUT - it was being sold via Today's Concept, who charges a hefty price for shipping and uses - ugh! - FedEx.

Of course, FedEx delivered someone else's package to my house, and my package to someone else's. After promising to correct this on Friday (they didn't) today (Saturday) they say they'll "get to it" on Monday.

Fine, except that I'll be on vacation Monday.

There's no telling when I - or the person who's package I received - will get what we ordered.

So ... having had NO problems in YEARS with UPS, I'm suggesting you avoid sellers who use FedEx.

This is STILL an awesome coffee maker, and now I note that you can get it via Amazon's Prime program. Go for it.
