Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent knife - ready to kill and skin a moose! Comment: I have had this knife for about 6 months, and I am very impressed. I did not really understand the safety lock before I bought it - or the opening mechanism, either - so I was worried about it popping open unexpectedly - but the safety lock keeps the blade safely tucked away. It is wonderfully easy to open, very sharp, and fun to use. I would add two points to other reviews: - When I opened the knife the first time, and it just POPPED open, too fast to see - now, I was scared to close it! My initial reaction was - if it closes that fast, how am I going to get my fingers out of the way when I try to close it? You have to push aside a bar that keeps it open - and your fingers are directly in the path of the closing blade! I knew, intellectually, it was not likely to close the same way it opened - but emotionally, I was not anxious to take that chance. I started looking for a pencil to push the bar away - until I convinced myself I would be able to control the blade. And fortunately, I still have all twelve fingers. (Huh?) I guess I would say that the instruction sheet they provide is pretty skimpy, if you have never handled one of these knives before. But the knife itself is great. - the other point is: Before buying, I read a field review of the knife online somewhere, and I expected it to talk about something like killing, skinning, and butchering a moose, or carving a totem pole, or something equally exciting. Instead, the tester sliced up some vegetables for a camp dinner. What a letdown! You mean the knife is not going to change my life? Preparing a camp dinner is probably what most of us will use this knife for. Or we will use it to slice open an energy bar package - or cut the bar in half to share with a friend. That is not the fault of the knife - although it is probably too small to do some of the things I dreamed of - but maybe the knife will inspire me, and you, to go look for that moose. The knife I recieved, although, turned out to be a lot nicer than I expected. I have had many knives and this one, by far, surpasses any and all of them. It keeps an edge great and is extremely sharp. I highly recomend purchase of this knife. I have several Kershaw models in my collection that are still in the box. But, the scallion is by far the best knife I have for every day use. When it went missing I was lost without it. After trying to get used to my old timer again I gave up and ordered this one. I LOVE it! Comment: I have always carried a pocket knife and found many uses for them over the years. The Ken Onion Scallion 1620 is a fantastic knife - reliable, sharp, and holds an edge quite well. It is legal since the blade is less than 3 inches in length. I worked for many years for a large urban agency in the midwest and often found police carrying them. They said they were very reliable and I never talked to an officer who stated he had any desire to replace it. The knife is light in weight, can be opened quickly with one hand, and is easy to close when finished. I have given them also to my adult children and quite few friends who continue to state they are the best small, lightweight pocket knife they have ever used. More Reviews
