Summary: VERY Disappointing!!!
Comment: This product worked for two weeks then quite percolating the coffee...only would stream hot water...sent it back after two weeks of use...very disappointed with product and performance...surprising due to Cuisinart's reputation...perhaps just a defective one....amazon was great in regards to refunding total cost.....

Summary: Back To Mr. Coffee Drip
Comment: What can I say. Have this product for less then a week and have not had a true cup of coffee. Sad to say Mr Coffee, which last about 6 months before I have to buy a new one makes much better coffee with less grounds. On the upside it is a beautiful pot to look at, shines great. Makes a great conversation peice. Maybe it was nostalgia from the 50's at Grandma's that made me think percolator coffee was great. I have a burr grinder and have tried several different grinds. If anyone has the secret to making a great cup of coffee from this pot, pray tell. I really would like to use it. I give it 4 stars for its beauty and 2 for the coffee. Ya, if you can divide it is 3.

Summary: Great coffee pot - until you have to start your day with brown water!
Comment: I have had this pot for just under a year. Initally, I LOVED it - the style, the ease, and the piping hot, unburned coffee. Then, after about six months, it started presenting me with brown water, or at best, coffee much weaker than I had come to expect from this pot. Imagine this sad scene: sideling up half conscious to this cute percolator, mug in hand, anticipating, no REQUIRING, that first cup of coffee, and all you get is BROWN WATER! This scenario would stop me dead in my morning routine - I would be unable to process what the next step should be! (For those of you in a similar crunch, I have found that if I pour a small portion of the weak coffee back through the coffee basket with the basket lid on, it can improve the coffee enough to get you started on your day, but I wouldn't say it was tasty.)

Like other reviewers, I have tried everything imagineable to fix this problem, with no luck. The worst part is that the pot is not consistent in making brown water - some times it still makes a good cup of coffee - so I am conflicted about throwing it out. But the time has come - I just can't face the uncertainty every single morning: will this be a good or a bad coffee day?
Be warned - this pot will leave you in a lurch, and you will use at least twice as much coffee as normal - a very expensive problem in the long run.

Summary: nostalgia first, taste second, hopefully it works for five+ years - third
Comment: Here's my take on the whole coffee thing. If you are a coffee guru, then you are going to go through all the trouble it seems to take to make the perfect cup, and this review is a mute point, or you are going to go to Starbucks and pay for the perfect cup. Most people who make coffee at home and in the morning (time permitting) are like me.

Here's my ideal coffee scenario:

I believe that buying my favorite high quality whole beans (Kenya AA), grinding them myself (coarsely, so they don't fall through the metal filter), and using the method I believe is best (the nostalgic percolator), is the perfect way to brew. It's my own preference: 1/3 nostalgia, 1/3 good beans, 1/3 convenience. They say that percolating coffee is burning beans. I and many other would disagree. I wake up grind my beans fill them and some cold tap water into the percolator. I wait 10 minutes while listening to that wonderful sound and smelling that great aroma!!! PERFECT!

For the GURUS, this may seem like heresy, but for me its the best of all worlds.

This model has, so far been great, 4 stars. The "glass knob" is plastic, whatever! Liars!. I've been brewing at the 6 cup line (water and beans) for 5 months at 4 to 5 times a week. Still hot and still consistent. It brews the same every time. This consistency over time is what I think will make or break this product. If it cools down a bit I will clean it. If it gets worse then I will be less than satisfied. If it fails before five years then I will be less than satisfied. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to make MY AMOUNT of coffee and how black I like it. I cannot set the heat or the brew time (it's all automatic), but the coffee comes out very hot (not burned) and very dark. The only thing I can control is the amount of both water and coffee. I have learned what amounts I like. Other times may vary because of the amount of water and coffee used.

Don't go by what the instructions say - go by what is best for you. The amount of coffee you get and the amount it says is one cup WILL BE DIFFERENT. Who cares. Make it the way you like it. This will take time to learn, but it will be best in the end. Every brand percolator is different, to bad you can't have a trial test before buying.

So far so good...

Summary: 2 Thumbs Up For This Percolator
Comment: While this percolator is a little more expensive than I would have liked, it is easy to use, and keeps the coffee nice and hot. It has a measuring guide inside the pot as well as in the filter bin, so getting the right amount of water and grounds is not a task at all. Using regular ground coffee is not recommended if you don't want floaters in your fresh coffee, so you will need to either buy coffee ground special for percolators, or you can buy whole beans and grind them coarse for a nice clean pot of coffee. The clear knob at the top does show the coffee brewing and makes the popping sound, just like the percolators from days gone by, which was a nice blast from the past. The power cord is 36" as a safety precaution, so an outlet close to where you will be using this percolator is a must. You can purchase a longer cord for it, though I am not sure where. It's ease of use, and always hot coffee make it worth the price paid, and the shipping took only 3 days, so all in all I am pleased with this purchase.
